Exploring the Vale
Fallcrest stands amid the Moon Hills at the falls of the Nentir River. Situated as it is, at the meeting of the King’s Road, Trade Road, and the river, it is the Vale’s primary trade hub, where traders and travelers from all across the area can meet and interact.
The surrounding ridges shelter small valleys where farmers and woodsmen live, with few venturing outside a six or seven mile radius from the town. In general, the people outside Fallcrest’s walls sustain themselves through farming and livestock, while the people inside the walls are artisans, laborers, and merchants. Those with no other prospects can employ themselves as porters, carrying cargo between the quays.
Fallcrest imports finished goods from larger cities downriver, and ironwork from the dwarf town of Hammerfast. Its exports include timber, leather, fruit, and grain. It also trades with the town of Winterhaven to the west. The surrounding hills hold several old marble quarries, which once produced a good deal of stone, but there is little demand for ornamental stone these days, and few stonemasons still practice their trade.
